At Chanel, glasses are a religion, able to be adopted along with the chic and timeless rules of the brand. “Sunglasses are like eyeshadow: with them everything looks younger and more beautiful.” This is the mantra of Karl Lagerfeld, creative director for the Parisian couture house.

Chanel was one of the first luxury ready-to-wear brands to enter the eyewear market, and they remain a reference point in the field today. Coco Chanel considered her clothes to be works of art, and her accessories as the frames that perfected them: jewelry, purses, shoes, and especially eyewear, either glasses or sunglasses – that never left her side – all dreamed up by her. Gabrielle Chanel’s unique style continues to inspire the brand’s designers, who render homage to her season after season.

This season, Laetitia Casta, hair slicked back and parted on the side, leather necklaces and chains at her neck, alternates between 60s-esque glasses and sunglasses for the new eyewear campaign. Covered with adornments, all while keeping with their simple and elegant style, these glasses are veritable jewels. The frames may be relatively tame, but Karl Lagerfeld knows how to give an impertinent side and a never-before-seen chic aspect to these emblematic and essential accessories, season after season… without ever straining from the creative line of the legendary Mademoiselle: elegance, simplicity, and audacity.
