Hedi Slimane is bringing to mind the myth of androgyny. At the dawn of ancient times, man and woman were one. In their wrath, the Gods separated their fellow deity of Androgyny, and the two have remained apart from their other half ever since. The couturier may not be positioned to make the beauty of man more perfect – like Yves Saint Laurent once said – but he can still unite them around the same bag. The link: a unisex carryover named Duffle.
This Saint Laurent essential can be sported on the shoulder or in the hand – depending on the season. It may be available in veal leather, hiding away a suede lining, but the bag still maintains its shape thats so classic it’s almost atypical. The minimalism of its curves and rigid allure of its frame may be misleading as to the true nature of the silhouette: a chic, restrained, and modern version of the doctor bag.
With three sizes for women and two for men, the Duffle is available in seven colors, of which red is without a doubt the most hypnotizing. As on the others, the signature is discreetly appended onto the front in gold letters. Already adopted by icons like Kate Moss, it comes from Hedi Slimane’s first line… No doubt a future collector piece.
