Karl Lagerfeld is against retro – no nostalgia in sight for Fendi’s runway this season. Taking care to eschew the 70s vibe that was omnipresent during Milan Fashion Week, the Kaiser came out with a collection oozing in graphic creativity. From a succession of styles emanated a desire to anchor this ninety-year-old brand into a post-modern vein. And yet it was in the Renaissance that he found the fodder for his imagination; within this more distant past, Karl Lagerfeld found a fascination for proportions, juxtaposing the tenderness of fur with the hardness of harsh cuts.
And so for next summer, Fendi has brought us a summer coat. With an unequalled graphic impact, black fur is reinvented and cut with a mix-and-match aspect of zigzag and chevron motifs. Could it be a nod to the Peekaboo bag? Nothing is less certain what with the new breed of liberty, suggested by a school of couture issued from a long line of savoir-faire that heralds tomorrow without the slightest shadow of nostalgia.
