Red is Dior’s color. It’s the color of passion, of power, of revolution. Femininity in its purest form. Christian Dior thought that a touch of color could change a woman’s appearance and especially that no woman should ever go out without lipstick. More than a color of predilection, it was for him a fetish, a lucky color with a particular aura about it. Christian Dior, when he created Rouge Dior, incited women to “dress their smiles up in red”. Sixty years later, Dior is back with a new summer collection: mandarin “Cruise”, poppy “Seafarer”, and fiery red “Mayday”.
The couturier, who also used red regularly in his collections, advised women to wear a touch to awaken their complexion’s luster and ignite their look. It’s to perfect them and dress up their smile with a dash of this color and all its special power that Dior created his first lipstick, a carmen shade simply dubbed 9, that has since become a mythic color throughout time. The color shades would come one after the other and establish red as a key color, one that would come back each season.
This summer, Dior is strengthening their ties with the universe of grand Atlantic crossings, inspired by the travel bug spirit of their first Resort and Spring line in 1948. Warm and luminous colors that vary from navy blue to sand beige, with red as the primary fixture. These colors capture the energy of the season and can even naturally enhance your tan for high intensity and perfect coverage. The proof once more that a Dior line can’t be such without this symbolic touch of carmen that can single-handedly make a plain face more sophisticated.
