In the 19th century, for the play “Viveurs”, Comédie Française actress Gabrielle-Charlotte Réju aka Réjane flaunted a turquoise crocodile-skin trunk. Discreetly labelled with its brand name: Moynat.

1849: just when Baroque was starting to infiltrate the luxury world, one trunk-maker decided to incorporate a discreet functionality: a monogram emblem imprinted on the inner lining of the finished product. Pauline Moynat, founder of the namesake brand, imagined her trunks as having curves modeled after the angles of the carriages of the day. The goal? Adopting their exact perimeters. Curved, elegant, and pure, her creations soon won her a reputation. However, her conquest was not to be long-lived: as far as anyone knows, the brand’s name soon faded into the mists of time.

No matter though, for the stars always last to remind us of the sky: in 2012, the Pauline brought back memories of the brand, and even managed to create some new ones. Light, and practical, its smooth curves are no longer adopted from carriages, but rather the lines of the female body. Sensuality is born from the communion between subject and object. From the day it came out, it was supermodel Natalia Vodianova’s best friend. Able to be brought out on the daily, for any occasion, it’s available in a plethora of colors, leathers, and sizes to tickle the fancy of any neo-Réjane in the theater of life. Somewhere between delicate modernity and serene elegance, it’s the symbol of our new era: discreet, but exceptional.
