If you are part of the Porsche community, you are probably familiar with the Porsche Club of America, the most active club with the closest ties to the German company. And such links give rise to interesting projects, like the one presented today, in collaboration with Porsche Classic. The two companies have joined forces to present a unique model that echoes one of the most iconic Porsches: the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe.

This project was born out of a conversation that took place at a dinner between members of Porsche Classic and some leaders of the Porsche Club of America in 2018. The club took it upon itself to purchase a 1998 Porsche 911 type 996 as a basis for restoration, and the vehicle was then sent to Zuffenhausen, where Porsche Classic is based, to begin the restoration.
The idea was to build a 996 based on the philosophy of the 997 Sport Classic, a limited edition released in 2010. A model that has never been sold in the United States. As you can see from the pictures, the configuration, colours and wheels echo the 997 Sport Classic.

On the other hand, not so much on the engine side. The original 996 block and transmission were removed to accommodate the entire powertrain and transmission of a 996 GT3. Under the bonnet is a 3.6 litre flat-six engine with 385 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque. Porsche Classic also added some chassis components and brakes to the GT3.
Grant Larson, the director of special projects at Porsche and responsible for the design of the 986 Boxster and Carrera GT at the time, was responsible for the design of this model. The famous ducktail spoiler from the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and the race-inspired double-hump roof are also present.

There are also 18-inch Fuchs wheels with “Club Blau” colour details. Inside the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe, there are some special inserts, charcoal grey upholstery and an infotainment system with a touchscreen that integrates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

It is not known how much the conversion to Classic Club Coupe cost, but it is a unique example. The client is the President of the Porsche Club of America.
