BMW iX M60 : The electric vehicle at the service of performance

BMW and electrical energy are without a doubt a love story in the making, but it is also a sporting story, which has been the DNA of the brand for now five decades as the BMW Motorsport division celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022.

After a kick off with the impressive i4 M50 of 544 horsepower, BMW presented the iX M60 at CES in Las Vegas: a powerful SUV featuring 2 electric motors providing a total of 619 horsepower and a truck-like torque of more than 1000 Nm. And while it may not appear so, this beauty is just as powerful as an Audi RS6 or a BMW M5.

The horsepower delivered by the motors depend on the driving mode. While it goes up to 619 horsepower in sport mode, it peaks at 532 horsepower in normal mode. In the former case, the vehicle has a 0 to 100km/h acceleration time of 3.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 250km/h despite its colossal weight which is slightly above 2 tons. Engineers have also supplied the iX M60 of an adaptive air suspension, electronically controlled shock absorbers, steered rear wheels and larger brakes.

In terms of range, it is between 499 and 566 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. And when plugged to 200 kW charger, the BMW iX only takes 35 minutes to get from 10 to 80 percent charged.

In appearance, the BMW iX M60 does not differ much from the xDrive40 and xDrive50. The exterior is blessed with a few spots of titanium bronze and the brand design M is painted in shiny black and titanium bronze. It comes with standard 21-inch wheels but it is possible to upgrade to 22-inch wheels. It will also be available in 7 colors: Alpine White, Dark Graphite, Pythonic Blue, Blue Ridge Mountain, Storm Bay, Oxide Grey and Aventurin Red.

On the inside, the vehicle displays a 12.3-inch digital instrumental cluster as well as a 14.9- inch control screen. Some areas are covered with brushed aluminum while the top of the gearshift and the wheel of the iDrive system are in crystal. In its standard version, the BMW iX M60 is equipped of many technologies, such as an adaptive speed control, a camera at 360 degree angle, wireless charging, a Bowers and Wilkins audio system etc.

The model is already available for pre-order, at the starting price of 132k euros. Shipping will begin next June.
