At the origin of this collaboration, Petit Bateau teamed up with the Palais Garnier. Christian Lacroix came into the adventure as a longtime collaborator of the Opéra de Paris. As a designer with a sure hand, who never backs down in the face of unusual associations, Lacroix’s signature seems like an obvious addition. He who wore the French brand’s timeless styles as a child is here reviving his very first memories by imagining timeless pieces of his own. The roadmap was simple: for a woman or a girl to be able to go out and see an evening play, dressed in Petit Bateau. The result: a poetic, ephemeral, and maliciously upscale line. Shaken up by the designer’s impertinence, Petit Bateau’s iconic stripes are getting adorned with haute couture ornamentation. On a boule skirt, a striped sweater, or a fur dress, all the refinement and creativity of Christian Lacroix also comes into the mix.
Ideal for wearing day or night. Opera and the couturier may smack of glamour, but Petit Bateau is the master of casual. For their 120th birthday, this encounter has culminated in anti-conceptional creations where basics come into contact with velvet ribbons in luminous colors like coral, gold, purple, or black, all of which raise the ante for the nautical stripes. Without damaging its childish roots, Petit Bateau is evoking surprise and desire with a little help from one of fashion’s mainstay personalities. Christian Lacroix designed 6 pieces altogether, two of which were made for little girls. Amongst them, an admirable evening dress with blue and white stripes, topped off by little red bows and bare shoulders. This short and sweet story comes to life on the incandescent comédienne Agathe Bonitzer, a former classical dancer. In stores on December 6th, the pieces will be available in Petit Bateau boutiques as well as the Opéra de Paris’ official boutique.
