At the beginning of his book Alber Elbaz pour Lanvin, the creative director explains his creative process: “Everyday is a blank page that I have to fill with dreams”. This dreamy introduction is in invitation into a marvelous world in which Alber Elbaz becomes a storyteller of fables for young and old alike.
The couturier received a very special client in his atelier a few days ago, the most known and loved of mice: Minnie Mouse. This emblematic Disney character ordered a unique, custom-made dress from him in honor of the continued celebration of Disneyland Paris’ 20th anniversary. Alber Elbaz has fashioned himself as a father “magician” creating a ball gown for one of his childhood icons, in the image of Jeanne Lanvin, who dreamed up garments for her granddaughter nicknamed “Marie-Blanche”. This tandem seals the love and inspiration between the creator and his muse, and vice versa, definitively in stone.
Minnie tries on her neoprene dress. The famous Lanvin blue radiates, an authentic signature of the brand. The rhinestone flowers make the fabric even better, structuring the cut, all while creating a playful, light vibe. This is how Minnie expresses herself, just as much a girl as a woman, just as inspirational. It is with the spirit of a child that Alber Elbaz recounts us his encounter: “When I showed her two dresses, she knew exactly which one she wanted. She likes to show off her heels and she loves earrings, jewelry, colors, and all that glitters. (…) She’s a real fashionista.” Fashion, Haute Couture, and Cartoons have come together around the uniting theme of magic, making us all dream. M is for Minnie, and for Marvelous, and for Minnie Blanche: this is the beginning of a perfect anaphor for a truly vibrant encounter.
