Starting in the 90s, bright colors within the brand’s collections were already echoing back to the 60s, structured by geometric prints. Prada’s work with vintage inspirations favors a dialogue between the formal character of pieces like the suit skirt and the era’s praise of liberty. The Prada skirt is also distinguishable through its surprising and timely originality that flourishes throughout the “Queen of the Skirt”’s successive inspirations. Perceived through a unique and spectacular prism, the Prada skirt appears in a brand new light, whether it’s the asymmetrical pencil skirt covered in neon flowers or the leather skirt, defined by rhinestone fringe or lace insets.

The pleated skirt, particularly in vogue in the 70s, proudly reappeared in 2012 in a consensual, more unhinged version. Prada was able to bring back this eminently “retro” piece by fabricating an entire array of airy styles in mainly pastel shades. The collection even presented a few pieces with pure, bright tones that conferred a certain character to this vintage reference in female fashion. All the audacity of this contemporary update was due to Prada’s work in colors, textures, and the subtle unveiling of certain body parts like the waist, revealed through the use of a bandeau.

For their Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Prada is once more embarking in a journey through time by taking inspiration from prints that are characteristic of the decorative style of the 70s. It’s precisely when the skirt allows for the recreating of the entire universe surrounding an era that the spirit of Prada can be fully expressed, perfecting our notions of key moments in history.
