“This piece took 194 hours to make” said the back of one of the pieces that went down the Vionnet runway in Paris. One thing is certain with Goga Ashkenazi’s new collection: the garment is precious, something to be worked but also to be understood. In perfect line with Madame Vionnet’s spirit, it seems that the garment’s complication is still highlighted in order to magnify the piece.

And so, the illustrious Vionnet diagonal cut is up for grabs in a dress that smacks of Ancient Greece, graciously covering the woman’s body. Simple and wise, the draping captures all the light of the pinkish grey that undulates on the pleats. A dawn sky perhaps? Its warm grey color that reddens with the arrival of the sun is like a Greek ceremony taken up within the poetry of Vionnet’s cuts for next season. Stay tuned for more…
