Before lighting up the runways with its lines that are so functional they’re glamorous, the Burberry trench coat served the British armed forces during World War I. Conceived by Mr. Burberry himself in 1901, it was manufactured in gabardine cotton in order to make it lighter and more comfortable. Sewn-in shoulder pads and a belted waist sporting a metallic “D” buckle rounded things off. Ever since, the trench coat’s shape has remained the same.

Burberry has also been coming up with clothes for kids since 2001. After the trench coat was shown off on Romeo Beckham last season, the brand now seems to have decided to strive for the dreamy world of childhood. Thanks to Burberry, it’s now possible for kids to dress up just like their parents… For Fall/Winter 2014, the brand is releasing a collection who’s pieces are identical to those from the “big people” runways. From the printed trench coat to the new heart motif, like a new leopard by way of military inspiration, the brand’s original DNA, Burberry’s most recent successes will all get shrunk down into miniature versions. You can already pick out a knit cashmere sweater with hearts and a military-style jacket in khaki wool.

Entitled “Mini-Me”, it will be available online and in Burberry’s fourteen boutiques for all of the brand’s children, from China to North America. Sometimes big surprises come in small packages!
