Corset was an item that accompanied women for agesrn– loved by ladies for giving them perfect hourglass figure and loathed at the same time for taking their breath away in a rather unwanted manner. It disappeared for a while to have its come back for the ultra-feminine fashion of the 50’s – and then took off again. But it was just waiting for the right hands to help bring corset back in the modern form – this time breathtaking only in a metaphorical sense, luckily.

Those hands appeared to belong to Italian duo – Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Soon after their first show in the 1986 those two retro enthusiasts started to incorporate corset into the designs, giving it a new life, the same way they transformed a male suit into figure-hugging version for women. But that wasn’t enough and in 1989 a corset dress was born – to accompany the brand ever since.

In words of Gabbana himself, “We offer a fabulous fit and an instantly recognizable silhouette”. This is a corset dress summed up – through its many faces, which also expressed current fashion and ongoing experiments of its two creators – it gives perfect figure and takes out a feminine beauty and grace in the best way, and often does it with a bit of ironic humour that D&G are famous for.

For this fall, the pair once again didn’t forget about their signature outfit. A corset dress for this season was inspired by baroque, black with rich gold patterns or magnificent black piece with ¾ skirt, bringing back old-time sophistication and feminity in a modern non-constricted way – as always with a little wink of an eye from the designers.
