We already know the Céline woman is cerebral, someone who pushes intellectualism into the very stitches of her clothing. This is femininity as defined by Phoebe Philo, or rather, the attitude of acting just as one sees fit, outside of trends and categories. For Fall/Winter 2017-2018, a pure collection mixing a masterful maximalism went down the Parisian runway. With elegant monochromes and touches of unexpected colors, such as the dazzling green that appears in oversize scarves, the Céline silhouette is worked in an uninhibited radicalness.

More than just a fashion show, Céline’s runways are a physical and sensorial experiment. With a dissonant soundtrack and raw scenography, Phoebe Philo seems to want to confront her creations with a chaos that is actually quite close to urban reality. Within the Paris Tennis Club, Céline’s women expressed a new version of habitual workwear.

The key piece in this wardrobe is a magnificent elegant tuxedo jacket with striking proportions. Upon contact with a thick belt tied around the waist in a very Asiatic style, the juxtaposition gets even cooler. This is a way of once more exhibiting the fact that intellectualism often goes hand-in-hand with allure and avant-garde, at least in the hands of Phoebe Philo that is.
