Smart is currently developing a new range of electric cars. Their first concept car design was introduced in 2019. Today they announced that this model will be put on the market, and it will be called Smart #1. Smart explained that the “#” symbol refers to today’s digital era of social networking.
Daniel Lescow, Smart’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Afters-Sales explained: “I am convinced that the Smart #1 will enthuse future customers in both China and Europe, setting new trends of urban mobility and co-creating powerful brand experiences wherever it will make an appearance.”

Designed by Mercedes-Benz and developed at the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute of Chongqing, Smart has already provided some information about its new model, starting with its air penetration coefficient, which is published to be 0.29.
This value was reached thanks to the aerodynamic work done on the car. In particular, its retractable door handles, active grille shutter as a standard and an aerodynamic package. .In terms of dimensions, the Smart #1 is a long way from the manufacturer’s original range, with a length of 4.30 metres, the size of a compact car today.

Smart has also started the testing its SUV in northern China, in a freezing climate that can reach -40°C. The photos of the prototypes show a design that is very similar to the Concept #1 model. As mentioned before, this car is a Mercedes-Benz and Geely collaboration, following their joint venture together. And the first product of this partnership will be revealed this year and If not definitely by the second half of next year.
