Certain may say that a Ferragamo exhibit at the Ferragamo museum is nothing out of the ordinary. Others will call it the most modern and avant-garde exhibit at the moment. The exhibit “The Amazing Shoemaker” retraces Salvatore Ferragamo’s epic story from his origins to his arrival to the United States. Enchanting and imaginary are the keywords for this exhibit where different artists have been able to let their creativity express itself and recreate the world of an 8 year old working as a shoemaker, who would go on to become the überfamous Salvatore Ferragamo.

Amidst the decor, a short film called “White Shoe” is projected, retracing the story of a child in quest of his craziest dream, marked by his attention to detail and his punctilious mind in constant search of perfection. In a marvelous animated film, you can watch the creation of a pair of white shoes he made for his sister’s Confirmation. This pair reminds us of one of Ferragamo’s emblematic pieces, the suede-strapped ballet flat he created for Audrey Hepburn in 1954.

“Shoes are a woman’s best friend”: this could have been Salvatore Ferragamo’s motto. A veritable visionary and creator of fairy tales for any woman enamored with shoes. This exhibit has been taking place at Florence’s Salvatore Ferragamo Museum since April 19th and is a true invitation to plunge into the intimate sphere of “The Amazing Shoemaker”.
