Deirdre Dyson has been able to draw from the very particular context of the pandemic an aesthetic, dreamlike and reassuring vision — a collection of rugs inspired by the movements of the sea, and the sun reflected in it.
Deirdre Dyson: The Sea And The Sun Dress The New Rugs
Baptized “All at Sea”, the new collection of rugs by Deirdre Dyson reveals the power of chance in the creative process. Because if the 2022 collection is inspired by the movements of the sea, it is because designer Deirdre Dyson found herself, despite herself, having to contemplate it.

At the height of the Covid pandemic, and while on vacation on the waters spinning the island of Guadeloupe — Deirdre Dyson preferred to stay on her boat rather than see her creative spirit confined. She says:
“During one of the confinements, I found myself stuck on a boat for almost three months, without ever going ashore […] being on the water can be both soothing and threatening. The movements of the sea are mysterious, just like the aquatic life that unfolds under our feet. »
It is therefore these shapes, these reflections and these games of shadows and lights that we find depicted on carpets that are always as chic and inspired. The immensity of the sea, its nuances and its creative vertigo – this is what guided the graphic design of the nine new rugs by Deirdre Dyson.
“The sea has become my source of inspiration and the prospect of a future collection has given me food for thought and work. I developed my images to see the waves as close as possible, and thus obtain an abstract effect […] I have always been fascinated by the luminous patterns that the sun creates on the surface of the water” she explains again.

Visible in its Parisian gallery and in London, in its King’s Road exhibition space, the new collection distils the dreamlikeness of the sea in a shades of blue, from navy to indigo, via cobalt, turquoise , swimming pool blue or sea green, even going as far as smoky or baby blue…
A true ode to the evocative power of the sea, the rugs also bear equally evocative names. “Graded Sea”, which incorporates a “rainbow” brings together all the colors of the sea, i.e. 21 different shades. With “Golden Glits” and “Sunlit”, Deirdre mixes wool and silk to reproduce the reflections of the colors of the cliffs…

Always worked by hand in this concern for perfection, the nine new rugs from Deirdre follow the very concept of the store, since they are made according to the preferences of each buyer. Cut in Tibetan wool and pure silk, they will make the sea waltz dance in the most refined interiors!
