In the name of Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane is reviving the relationship between rock and fashion through the shots for his latest campaign. And that’s not all; this year, he’s also gotten Daft Punk onboard.

May 1971: Yves Saint Laurent dressed up Bianca and Mick Jagger for their wedding in Saint Tropez. 2013: Hedi Slimane is adorning contemporary musical icons with stars. At the head of the line ? Daft Punk. The band that was a precursor to French house music has already collaborated with the couturier before. It was Hedi Slimane who signed off on their costumes for their Human After All era -leather biker suits. Daft Punk then repaid the favor by providing a few guitar riffs for his 2012 runway with a blues cover of I Gotta Try You Girl by American composer Junior Kimbrough.

The reaction was hardly delayed; the French chose it for the groovy aesthetic of the band’s upcoming music video Get Lucky. In the teaser released at Coachella, the two androids appear in sequin-embroidered tuxedo jackets with satin collars. The sparkling get-ups accompany Pharell Williams’ humming and an appearance by the guitarist from the band Chic. Without skipping a beat of fascination with and exaltation of the nocturnal, Hedi Slimane transfigures it into a garment. The cut is clearly skinny, bringing to mind the glitter rock style of the 70s. He’ll also design the electro duo’s stage outfits for their next tour, which will surely be just as intoxicating and rightfully captivating as his first outing.

For almost 10 years, it’s been worked on through contact with the next generation of lifestyle. Imprisoned by the lens of Saint Laurent’s latest creative director, it today accompanies his collection. The brand’s muses include Marilyn Manson posing in the L01 motorcycle jacket, Kim Gordon, young Californian rocker Ariel Pink, and goddess Courtney Love… now add Daft Punk to that list. During the photo shoots in Los Angeles, it highlights portraits, real portraits. The dissident icons of a muted century all dress up in Saint Laurent pieces of their choosing. Courtney Love slipped on a draping evening dress in her New York house, straight out of the Pre-Fall 2013 collection. In short, these timeless pieces suspend mortals in an infinitely irreverential state of grace. These idols are captured by Hedi Slimane’s label, that plays with black and white, his favorite colors.
