On Friday, March 3 2017, Tod’s hosted celebrities in their Faubourg Saint-Honoré boutique for the launch of a collection that’s outside of all conventions. With a cocktail party/performance from tattoo artist Saira Hunjan, popular with the stars themselves, Diego Della Valle highlighted this interesting collaboration. Tattoos perfect this great artisanal tradition, with pieces from the new collection promising to anchor themselves in a sort of timeless inventiveness.
Dubbed Tod’s Tattoo, this collection from the Italian brand aims to put the art of tattooing back at the heart of a craftsmanship that’s enamored by traditions. This celebration of a craft as old as humanity appears as a fusion of the modern and stylistic capabilities of a brand anchored in elegance. The tattoos, hand-done by Saira Hunjan, give a unique aspect to these limited edition creations. “It takes a lot of time since the leather can absorb a lot of ink. It takes a lot of cleaning up,” says Saira Hunjan.
Engraved on the most beautiful pieces in the Tod’s repertoire, lions and other tribal symbols give these bags, Gomminos, and other icons from the brand even more character. This is an encounter of precise and perfect execution that can be understood as a beautiful emphasis of a project of two crafts.
