A masterpiece of the contemporary era. A love story between a computing genius and his invention. Steve Jobs may have left us in 2011, but his spirit still lingers on at Apple. Indeed, he was the great visionary behind the tech brand, a genius and a prophet of our millennium. The New York Times praised Jobs as being “one of the greatest innovators in the history of modern capitalism”.
This myth has its source in the 70s, when Jobs and partner in crime Steve Wosniak created their very first computers. True slices of bravery, the finished product was the result of an unbridled desire to make these complicated and unknown machines accessible to families, to make them convivial and beautiful. After retiring from the business in 1985 and buying up Pixar animation studios in 1986, he came back to Apple and launched the first legendary iMac. With its soft, voluptuous curves, these “colorful eggs” quickly took over households around the planet, primarily for their performance but also for their design aesthetic. Moreover the mouse, files, and icons allowed for an easy, even entertaining user experience. Technical prowess, style, functionality, and simplicity were Steve Jobs’ core values. And these values still haven’t ceased to be perfected, from the extreme slimming down of Apple’s devices to their graphic quality.
The launching of the latest iMac last November sanctifies these advanced techniques: the IPS screen (in-plane switching) allows for a panoramic, realistic, and almost reflection-less image resolution. The third-gen Intel Core processor makes this computer the most powerful in the world. OS X Mountain Lion makes for a user-friendly, convivial, and intuitive experience. Equipped with the latest technologies in SSD memory coupled with a classic hard drive, it unites speed and data storage space. It even has a new feature called Fusion Drive that selects your favorite applications and documents to immediately open them up. Dressed up in aluminum, its silhouette boasting an incredible finesse, the iMac continues to fascinate the entire planet; a fitting homage to its inventor. A product that’s both prestigious and accessible, the iMac is just as much for tech buffs as it is for design lovers and computing novices. It’s like a “cuddly toy” for adults, according to Jean-Charles Nayebi, French psychologist and author.
