Since 1993, the Eastern & Oriental Express has offered one of the most extraordinary rail journeys in all of Asia. It crosses Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand in three days, passing through legendary cities and sites. Its unique trajectory plunges passengers into the past and offers up colorful landscapes, impenetrable equatorial forests, immense mountains, golden temples, rice and tea fields, and colonial vestiges.
A palace on wheels, the Eastern & Oriental Express distinguishes itself with its colonial-style wagons. It counts 17 cars in all, including the sleeping cars, three dining cars, a “bar car”, a saloon car, and an observatory car that allows you to contemplate breathtaking scenery beneath a veranda. For the decor, this legendary train was rearranged in accordance with Asian design principles mixing marquetry, lacquered wood, upholstered chairs, and Asian tapestries from the 30s. According to Nicolas Pillet, General Director of the Eastern & Oriental Express, this luxurious setting with retro touches fits within the DNA of an atypical getaway spot that aims to “create exceptional experiences for guests”.
This one of a kind train is also emblematic of a certain way of life, as well as an indisputable way of traveling. The services on board are enough to make you feel you’re living in a moment suspended in time: gastronomy, cocktails, entertainment, and quality personnel all contribute to a luxurious, soothing, and unforgettable adventure. Starting October 28, 2016, passengers will also have the chance to taste the purified and contemporary signature menus of famed Australian chef Luke Mangan. This journey, full of history, culture, and emotion, takes its cues from a different time when transportation and the very art of living were one and the same.
