Two rings and a rod: one shoe and one story. Gucci is inaugurating a very special collection in the new year, its “1953 Collection”, that celebrates the 60th birthday of its famed Horsebit Loafers. These flexible, comfortable, esquestrianly aestheticized, and decidedly refined moccasins are an allegory of the brand itself: recognized as “emblematic” in 1986 by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, they’ve been part of the permanent collection ever since. These loafers bring a promise of eternity, and they are a symbol of urban elegance and casual chic.

Frida Giannini, creative director for the brand, clearly explains this success: “With a classic beauty and an absolute functionality, they are timeless. (…) They go perfectly with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, or with a pretty little pink dress, for a more glamorous look.” This immortal and universal style traverses time and space, from Jean-Paul Sartre to Jodie Foster, or Fellini with his Dolce Vita.

For the “1953 Collection”, the shape of the loafers has also been retouched just a bit. One new addition is an abundance of lively colors, from fuchsia to periwinkle blue, but the mythical beige and black versions are also still on the menu. The materials effortlessly oscillate between tradition and exoticism. The famed Floria motif monogram dedicated to Grace Kelly is available, as well as varnished leather, calf velvet, crocodile skin, and snakeskin. The horsebit is available according to any and every desire, in nickel or brass. The Gucci horsebit will give you style and allure every step of the way.
