Just for the occasion of the Bouroullec brothers’ exhibit Momentané (“Momentarily”) at Paris’ Musée des Arts Décoratifs from April 26th to September 1st, let’s take a look back at their incredible work within the school that formed them.

Before being all about Design, it was first all about family. Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec have been working as a family since 1998, which allows for a permanent dialogue, the very essence of their work. Inspired by Jasper Morrison, these two brothers’ design is perceived as disciplined and poetic. Erwan said himself that their style is “deliberately simple with a humorous element.”

Preachers of accessible design, ergonomics with ludic materials, they are constantly in search of a flexible space that can adapt itself to the needs of each and every one with an ever simple and functional style. Visitors will be able to test out the ergonomics of select pieces by having a dialogue between themselves, separated by a new curtain system simply called the “Ready Made Curtain”. That’s right, the very essence of Bouroullec design is to redefine space. “We always felt that furniture could help to define a space.”

Excepting a few impressive installations, the creation process is revealed to us throughout this exhibit with sketches, videos, and photos. The important role of drawings in the life of a designer is highlighted. 2013 promises to be a fruitful year for the brothers Bouroullec with two books of sketches and an iPad app of notebooks and abstract designs.

This exhibit will most likely make you want to move your furniture around.
