On November 28, 2021, the fashion world, and not only, mourned the passing of Virgil Abloh. Even though he had a formation in architecture, he was the stylist and artistic director for men at Louis Vuitton, but also the founder of the Off-White brand base in Milan, which used to mix luxury and streetwear. He was also a designer, DJ and for a time, the right-hand man of the American rapper Kanye West (now Ye).
The legacy of Virgil Abloh does not limit to the world of fashion only Indeed, in 2021 he launched a collaboration with Mercedes-Maybach, a collaboration that then gave birth to the Project Maybachprototype and a very limited series of the S 680.
The German company has unveiled every detail of its new flagship and has announced the beginning of the production of only 39 units intended for the American market.
Virgil Abloh worked on this spectacular S 680 with Mercedes Design Director Gorden Wagener in the months before his death. The project was born thanks to the team of Mercedes Manufaktur in Sindelfingen, where the most luxurious cars of the Michelin-starred brand are manufactured.
The S 680 astonishes with its bodywork combining two shades, black and beige, with several chrome elements. The contrast between colors is also reinforced by the 20-inch beige rims and echoes the same aesthetic choice that on the Maybach Project. The interior of the S-Class follows the same alternation of beige and black. The seats, door panels, armrests and the lower part of the dashboard are made of light leather, while the rest is black.
On the other hand, no changes under the hood: we still find the V12 6.0 liters of 610 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. The engine guarantees sporty performance, but without excess, with a 0 to 100 km/h shot down in 4.5 seconds and top speed of 250km/h.
