Pleats Please! “between creation and practicalness, between fashion and daily life, between timeless and trendy, between classic and cutting edge” he designed a new breed of iconography for the female wardrobe. Ceaselessly adapting itself to morphology and to the body, the designer is getting involved in this collection in a whole new way. Made of heavier and drier but still airy fabrics, the clothing must demonstrate lightness, comfort, and facilitate movement and maintenance. Built on the movements of rhythmic gymnastic students at Aomori University in Japan, Issey Miyake is once more integrating an artistic piece into his creative process, like he’s done previously with the dancers from William Forsythe’s ballet in the 90s.
The poetic dimension is an essential measure that he unites with the modern man on the daily. This new line doesn’t depart from its physical dimension, such that he is offering fifteen pieces for this premiere – from a tanktop to a cardigan combined with several different kinds of pants. Conceived for “the boys of today that don’t wear a tie anymore, dress up less formally, and juggle with styles between street and sportswear” as the designer describes it, these pieces are released in a classical color palette limited to four specific shades: grey, black, khaki, and the most dynamic color of them all: Klein blue. Exclusively available in the new Reality Lab boutique in Tokyo’s Aoyama neighborhood, just inaugurated last November, the l’Homme Plissé collection will be released on a bigger scale starting in 2014 to accompany an easing into the male body of men in the modern world.
