Perrier, the iconic world champion brand of sparkling water, is celebrating 150 years of success in 2013.

Perrier has conquered the world and today enjoys global success due to its boldness and inimitable craziness. Its aloof image and taste have stayed intact for a century and a half now, and the brand is now marvelously incarnating humor and extravagance through a sparkling campaign in its native country of France called “Perrier, c’est fou”.

Numerous artistic collaborations have marked its history including with Dali in 1969, Jean Paul Goude in 1990, Johan Reck in 2012, and many other artists who all contributed to fashioning Perrier’s visual imprint, synonym for sassy freshness. Creativity and elegance, a free tone and an avant-garde vibe have made Perrier an emblematic brand.

Perrier will be celebrating its 150 years in a whirlwind of sparkling bubbles. On the agenda is a collaboration with the Warhol foundation to commemorate the works that Andy Warhol created for the brand. In 1983, a number of unusual and colorful serigraphs straight out of the artist’s Pop Art movement adorned the famous Perrier bottle. Twenty years later, Perrier once again “Warholized” its bottles by taking inspiration directly from the American artist, with colorful backgrounds and painted effects extravagantly dressing up its mythical bottle. Just for the French Open, taking place from May 26th to June 9th, the brand, an official partner of the event for 36 years now, is giving us a special Roland Garros 2013 limited edition, also in a Pop Art style.

For its anniversary, Perrier has created an exclusive lemon-based cocktail with pear-vanilla infusions through its “Mixology by Perrier” initiative. The brand is delving into the field of mixology aka liquid gastronomy and offering explosive creations inspired by molecular cuisine. Definitely NOT to be consumed in moderation!

The Perrier saga may have started in 1863, but Perrier became the Perrier it is today when Dr. Louis Perrier became the owner of the spring where the water comes from in the south of France. In 1903, St. John Harmsworth, an English noble, fell under Perrier’s spell and conceived the bottle’s iconic shape, helping the “Princess of table waters” become the patented supplier of His Majesty the King of England. It’s ascension was uninterrupted, and Perrier was named the first brand of sparkling water in the world in 1990. Celebrating 150 years of Perrier means celebrating the audacity, eccentricity, and singularity of a brand that is facetiously digging up one of its old ads that was censored in 1976: “Perrier, provoking pleasure for 150 years!”
