From May 13 to July 22, the A. Galerie, in Paris’ 16th arrondissement, will house the exhibit “Desire” from photographer Patrick Demarchelier. This retrospective will illustrate his numerous mythical prints, created throughout these past thirty years.

Capturer of fashion and advertising snapshots, the self-taught Demarchelier first devoted himself to his passion at the age of 17. Equipped with a camera that his stepfather had offered him, he set out on a quest for spontaneity, modesty, and sensitivity. After the evident beauty of his first shots, Vogue magazine asked him to create a fashion series for them in France and the U.S. His images reveal a casual sparkle, expressions of a singular and original universe. Capable of capturing any spark, the tiny instant that strips down the personality in his lens, this artist that claims to love “real laughter and beauty” makes us confront natural intimacy with a sincere delicateness. He has participated in Pirelli’s calendars and in numerous ad campaigns, notably for Dior.

During this summer exhibit, twenty shots will be displayed, honoring the most illustrious muses of photography, from Kate Moss to Gisele Bündchen, Christy Turlington to Elle MacPherson, even Nadja Auermann. Exclusively in black and white, Demarchelier’s discreet and moving portraits are veritable poems dedicated to feminine grace and beauty.
