The Italian design house has finally put an end to the suspense by revealing the name of one of the replacements for Christopher Kane, former creative director for Versace’s secondary line “Versus”.
Recipient of the award for “Emerging Talent for Ready-to-Wear” at the 2012 British Fashion Awards, this more than promising talent has been able to impose himself as a figure of true character in the space of only four springs. In 2008, he launched a menswear line that enjoyed immediate success. At the age of 28, this young man is already a mainstay with Alexa Chung, Rita Ora, and Pixie Geldof, all of whom’s admiration for his eponymous label has no limits. He also has a collaboration with Topshop under his belt; none of this has gotten past Donatella Versace. “I keep a watchful eye on young talents, and have been impressed by Jonathan’s work over the last couple of years.”
For this new collection, Jonathan aka J.W. Anderson will imbue his pieces with a touch of nostalgia, taking inspiration from a campaign shot by Bruce Weber taken with Donatella in 1996. “For me”, stated Jonathan, “this iconic image says it all, that’s how I see Versus. It’s all about the relationship between a boy and a girl, a girl and a girl, a boy and a boy. Purity.”
