Punk has always influenced Alexander McQueen, and Winter 2016 is no exception. British designer Sarah Burton is offering a collection that’s in perfect harmony with the more casual line represented by the McQ label. A line that is perfectly adapted for women in search of urban and contemporary clothing. By applying all the relevant codes of her mentor, Sarah Burton manages to execute a collection that generously yields a number of everyday pieces. But let’s not forget: with McQueen, even everyday items are remarkable.
By fulfilling Alexander’s inspiration and fascination for youth street culture that has in some ways been lost, but nonetheless conscious of her own power, Burton has an innovative approach. Oversize pieces, soft fabrics, and an unexpected comeback: the divided skirt. The equation for the silhouette has undergone a few changes: simpler than ever, it now sports a mid-calf length. The piece is asymmetrically cut into silk muslin, tinted with a delicious cream color. A little bit of retro, an approach that’s just a touch avant-garde, and voilà: the McQ divided skirt has everything it takes to become next season’s “must-have”.
