The first Dior watch collections go back to 1975. Very classic and with no relationship to Dior style, the timepieces finally became fashion accessories on step with their women’s collections in the 2000s. Composed around a creative femininity, with a savoir-faire made of unequalled excellence in their execution, the refinement of the details and the materials chosen are marvelous. Ever since, the backside of Dior’s watches has been treated with the same exigence as the lining of a dress. Covered with lacquer or nacre, the oscillating masses are placed on the dial, sophisticated upon contact with feathers or mesh « résille », in French. Hence the name Dior VIII Grand Bal Résille.)
On their dials, Dior VIIIs show only one numeral: VIII. But when they get invited to Dior’s Grand Bal, the automatic movement strikes the rhythm in the opposite sense. Developed exclusively by Les Ateliers Horlogers Dior, the Dior VIII Grand Bal Résille 33mm automatic contains both the functionality of motion-based rewinding and the dreaminess of an oscillating mass that, above the white nacre dial, reproduces the twirling of a ball gown. In this Résille version, these openwork “skirts” are encrusted with 211 pink sapphires. In addition, the bezel is adorned with a nacre ring. A hypnotizing white, the opalescent crystal sapphire background leaves you guessing as to the gold oscillating mass, which is also white. This one’s fit for a princess going to her first ball.
