The life of Yves Saint Laurent, mostly between 1967 and 1976, his professional and emotional torments as well as his relationship with the dandy Jacques de Bascher and the one who will become his companion, Pierre Bergé. The film focuses on his working methods, as well as his encounter with his two muses, Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux.
Bonello summed up the film’s premise, “We weren’t interested in showing how Yves Saint Laurent became a genius. We wanted to show what it cost him every day to be who he was, and that’s why, at the beginning of the film, he is already a star.
