Behind the scenes of the Gobelins Workshops
Dates: from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021
Location: The Manufacture des Gobelins
Price: from 9.50 € to 14.50€
L’enclos des Gobelins is no less than 80 art technicians, 23,000 shades of colour, 600 repositories of the Republic fitted out, about 5 masterful «pieces» that «fall from the craft» each year and 3 manufactures with a know-howmake unique and traditional weaving that endures and grows over time. Open your eyes wide and contemplate the thoroughness with which art technicians work. They are among the best liciers in the world and shape monumental works according to models of contemporary artists.
The delicate manipulation of the brooch, the comb and the layer, the perfect mastery of the knots, the meticulous positioning of the mirror which serves as control for the work in progress or the preparation of the «chain», all these techniques transform the hand of man into the hand of an accomplished artist and the majestic machine into a high-end delicate instrument.
You will then understand why the completion of a piece is proudly celebrated. After years of work the masterpiece is inventoried and made available to furnish the high places of the Republic or to be presented to the public in cultural places.
