Icon-Icon Opinion :
We owe the design of the mythical Arco floor lamp to the duo of Italian designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castegliono for the house Flos. And if the object of light has become so iconic, it is first and foremost for its levitating structure. A floating lamp, as beautiful as it is fascinating. A true museum piece, too, since it is part of the permanent collection of MoMA!
Name of the product : Arco
Designer : Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni
Description : The Arco floor lamp is a design classic par excellence and as such, an element of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1962, the brothers Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni created the arc lamp for the manufacturer Flos. In their design, which originated from a simple street lantern, they combined the advantages of a floor lamp and a suspension lamp.

This book is Robert Polidori’s portrait of the interiors of the now demolished Hotel Petra in Beirut, a grand icon of the city’s prewar history. The Hotel Petra was once one of the most popular hotels in Beirut, conveniently located in the city center adjacent to the Grand Theatre. After the Lebanese Civil War of 1975-90, Rafiq al-Hariri founded a holding company, Solidere, whose goal was the selective demolition and reconstruction of downtown Beirut’s urban fabric. In 1992 the Hotel Petra was set aside for later restoration, and from that moment essentially cut off from any human intervention.
