Yesterday, Friday April 26, 2013, the International Festival of Fashion and Photography of Hyères began, in the Villa Noailles. A not-to-be-missed event for young artists and professionals, the festival has been a veritable incubator for talent in the domains of fashion and photography since 1985.

Overseen by Jean-Pierre Blanc since its initial creation, the festival allows 10 previously selected designers to present their collections in different runway shows. Several prizes are up for grabs: the Grand Prix du Jury prize, the Fashion prize 2013, the Hyères citizen’s prize, and the new Chloé prize. The jury that awards these prizes is composed of fashion professionals and presided over by Felipe Oliveira Baptista, creative director for Lacoste. He himself was a participant in the Hyères festival a few years ago, just like the famous Victor & Rolf, Xavier Delcour, and Léa Peckre, all of them established designers today.

This year young talents are coming from Germany, France, China, and even Canada. Each universe presented is singular, combining minimalism, graphic elements, floral purity, and historical allusions. Graduates of prestigious schools like the ENSAD in Paris, the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Anvers, the Head in Geneva, and the FIT in New York, the selected candidates will reveal themselves through cuts, materials, and prints the likes of which have never been seen before. With modern romanticism and geometric poetry, the designs never cease to be inventive and reveal a sort of absolute equilibrium. These masterful garments and innovative discourses harmonize and herald with the songs of Apollo the success of the designers of tomorrow.
