The festival’s jury, presided over by Felipe Oliveira Baptista, has given out the Grand Prix du Jury Première Vision prize to Finnish designer Satu Maaranen, for her women’s collection named Garment in Landscape.
Inspired by Land Art, the prizewinner asked herself a few questions about the possibilities and ways in which one can wear nature in a garment. You can see clouds, waves, and sand in each of her compositions. With an extraordinary taste for color, as well as a remarkable workmanship in the textiles and cuts, she offers us an awakening of the senses. With the romance of natural elements and the exuberance of bold volumes, a harmony full of richness is revealed. Floriane de Sant-Pierre, member of the fashion jury, commented on the collection: “What struck us with Satu was the power of her imagination that opened up a new dimension; we were particularly privy to her usage of color, worked in an artisanal way, as well as the richness of her fabrics and textures.”
Thanks to the prize, this graduate of the Aalto University of Art and Design in Helsinki now disposes of a bit of funding to create her next collection. Stay tuned for the next chapter of this story, dedicated to nature and the magic of clothing.
