Rolex is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. 50 years fueled by a love of speed and sports cars. In fifty years, the Cosmograph Daytona has created its own myth. This race started just one year before the watch came out; the timepiece has been awarded to the victor every year since 1963. In 1992, the 24 Hours of Daytona changed its name to the Rolex 24 at Daytona, where the Daytona watch still remains the ultimate prize today. This legend is now being told at Le Bon Marché through text, photography, and film. Just for the occasion, historic styles will appear alongside the Cosmograph Daytona’s more recent offerings. From 1963 to today, from Paris to Daytona, this exhibit is arranged like a journey through time.
“The watch is the reason behind the race”, said driver Scott Pruett. Just as fabulous as the watch. Innovative in its readability and the harmony of its composition, the Cosmograph Daytona offers an aesthetic made of pure elegance. Its contrasting counters and tachymetric scale, located on the bezel rather than the dial, have helped make Rolex the ultimate reference for racing enthusiasts. How is a watchmaking legend born? You’ll have to head to Paris’ Rive Gauche for the answer to that question, along with a glorious story waiting to be told in the watches section of Ke Bon Marché.
