Through the reconstituted tools and workshops of the hatter’s accomplices, we rediscover these craftsmen who combined their know-how to give life to hats. From the Museum to the Hat Workshop-Museum in Chazelles-sur-Lyon, five centuries of hat-making tradition. The Hat Museum, which has since become the Workshop-Museum, opened its doors in 1983. Its creation followed the decline of the local mono-industry of hat making. It is dedicated to the preservation of the hat-making memory and the active safeguarding of know-how. It is labeled “Museum of France”. The author : Éliane Bolomier, born in Lyon, studied ethnology. Her various research projects in the Monts du Lyonnais region led her to Chazelles-sur-Lyon, where she founded the Musée du Chapeau, which in 2013 became La Chapellerie, atelier-musée du Chapeau. She has been the curator since 1985 and has already published several books on the subject: La Chapellerie à Chazelles-sur-Lyon, Approche technique et historique ; Cent ans de Chapeaux 1870-1970 ; Le Chapeau, Grand art et savoir-faire ; L’encyclopédie du couvre-chef.
