Within a pop art decor, Miuccia Prada went back to the very essence of her realm of activity last week. By giving a voice to, or rather, by covering the walls of her runway with comic books made by women going back to the 40s, Prada drew their line in the sand. “We undertook a long research process to identify these artists, all women, most of them young, that were active between 1940 and 1960. […] I especially realized that through comics, you can lightly witness powerful and serious things. Like what I try to express through my fashion.” Just when the great problems of the century that we thought long-gone are once more coming back to shake up the planet, Prada is committed to common sense.

For Spring/Summer 2018, the Italian label is introducing a contrasting wardrobe with looks that overflow with creativity. Miuccia is indeed unparalleled when it comes to zooming in on genres, fabrics, prints, or any other dissonant element within an elegant wardrobe. She is, after all, at the root of the ungainly wave that’s swept over fashion for a few seasons now. When Miuccia Prada decides to go back to the quintessence of her style, the result is an anthology of portable inventiveness. Look #39 introduces all the iconic elements of the Prada wardrobe: off-topic socks and puffy skirts with a light-hearted but important message… A superposition of a precious brocade top on top of a simple pair of sweatpants conveys the message. This a girly but on-point allure.

Miuccia Prada wanted to question one thing: “When society describes a woman as strong, we say that she’s masculine. Why? She’s not masculine, she’s a strong woman,” Miuccia Prada mused backstage. “I want to bring my militancy back to life through my craft.” The result is as beautiful as it is intelligent – a borderline silhouette that flirts with notions of taste and elegance without ever ending up in the ugly basket. This look marks the dawning of an asexual era without the slightest hint of vulgarity.
