“No concept”. For next season, Alexander Wang refused to put his inspiration into a conceptual box. This year, and just like at his origins, the King of New York Cool is getting back in touch with street ethos: “We’re always asking ourselves what is modern. Well, what’s modern is what’s just in front of us.” he confided backstage, summing up his collection’s entire philosophy.
The collection itself was typical of Alexander Wang at the height of his art: cool and a bit vulgar at the edges, but with a perfect mastery of fabrics and cuts. This New Yorker has once more succeeded in imbuing the streets with a sort of disheveled glamour and an attitude that’s diametrically opposed to the Big Apple’s tawdry traditional style. Among his looks, the motorcycle pants perfectly sum up the ideas of borrowing and appropriation  that are so near and dear to Alexander Wang. Cut in a thick leather, these pants use a style of cut and stitching usually reserved for men. Falling lightly on the hips that become almost absent, Alexander Wang’s motorcycle pants reinforce and enhance the incarnation of the tomboy with a confident attitude and a look that’s quite simply cool.
