It’s a spectacular destination, so gargantuan that it reaches the height of the Eiffel Tower. It was in 1993 that architect Tom Wright imagined this hotel as oversized as it is delirious in a Dubai that was then still in the process of developing. The Burj Al Arab Hotel was born from this desire to make the Emirates’ primary city the most luxurious destination in the world – a capital for billionaires that would inaugurate this 321 meter work of art on December 1st, 1999. Planted like a sail on an artificial island close to Jumreirah, the hotel is the ultra-modern seal of Dubai’s port city past. The Burj Al Arab seems to come straight out of the water!
The oversized nature of this freshly worked bit of luxury reaches down to the services offered to guests. Throughout its 27 floors, the hotel has 202 duplex suites, some of which surpass the height of the clouds. On the inside, marble furnishings make for fantastic aesthetics. Indeed, it seems nothing is too beautiful, too big, or impossible within the walls of the Burj Al Arab. A self-proclaimed 7 star hotel, it promises its rich visitors a stay as unforgettable as the wildest of their desires, put simply. Shopping, makeovers, clubs, and a number of activities are all available here – there’s no need to ever leave. “We are constantly searching for new original ways to meet the expectations of our guests. We think that an exceptional event deserves an exceptional location, and we’re proud to be able to add this special place to our catalogue of unique experiences,” says Heinrich Morio, managing director of the Burj Al Arab Hotel.
It’s no accident then that the hotel has become a privileged destination for billionaires from around the world. Arriving at the hotel in a Rolls Royce, with a butler at your disposition, the hotel’s latest flight of fancy is a virtual concierge service available from 24 carat gold-plated iPads. Celebrities, athletes, models, and other stars on a quest for absolute luxury love it here. Tiger Woods treated himself to a round of golf on the helipad in 2004. In 2005, Roger Federer and Andre Agassi took each other on in a tennis match. The Burj Al Arab in Dubai is incomparable, so incomparable that Claudia Schiffer confided: “When I think of luxury, I think of this hotel.” No surprise then that today Gigi Hadid and Kendal Jenner have followed in her footsteps.
