There’s no more iconic Gucci signature than the horsebit. A quasi-fetish that ties all of their collections together, it’s also a distinct touch that can easily be found on a number of the brand’s pieces. This year, Gucci Watches and Jewelry is bringing the horsebit to a new line of timepieces, or rather, expanding their Horsebit collection with six new timepieces. Manufactured in Switzerland, Gucci’s watches have been renowned for their quality, design, and artisanal savoir-faire deployed at the heart of their watchmaking mechanisms for almost 45 years now. The Ronda quartz movement is enclosed in a stainless steel casing, while the baguette-hands stroll along an extremely refined white lacquer dial. In a much more contemporary vein, the new versions of the Horsebit timepieces are joined by bracelets with warmer color shades. Moreover, with a desire to more simply respond to the need for an increasingly complex modernity, Gucci Watches and Jewelry released its chronograph in a new intermediary size of 30mm, or a medium size of 34mm. Exalted by the curves of the horsebit, the aestheticism of these new timepieces seems both modest and modern in equal measure.
To anchor itself a bit more in the season, Gucci is also releasing a less classic bracelet, cut in camel-dyed veal leather, overstitched with contrasting beige stitches. Worked like this, the bracelet coordinates with the dial like a diptych – the camel color responding to the 18 carat white gold adorned with pavé diamonds. Baselworld was also the occasion to give a sneak preview of the ad campaign devoted to these Horsebit newcomers. Created by Solve Sundsbo, a Norwegian photographer who learned from the likes of Nick Knight and Bruce Weber, the campaign casts model Nadja Bender in the spotlight. On photos that echo out to the Florentine brand shade by shade, Solve Sundsbo honors these timepieces that have an elaborate look albeit with a totally casual style. A woman with a more contemporary allure appears in a rich dynamic that’s full of glamour. The ad campaign will be unveiled in the media starting this month.
