Bertone Presents a Sublime Supercar for its 110th Anniversary

The famous Italian coachbuilder Bertone becomes a manufacturer. Indeed, to celebrate its 110 years, the transalpine firm has just presented an incredible supercar as interesting aesthetically as technically.

The new Bertone GB110, which bears the initials of the brand’s founder, Giovanni Bertone, has been imagined as an ultra-modern supercar capable of incredible performance, paying homage in its design to Bertone’s past.

“The GB110 is an extremely powerful car,” explains Jean-Franck Ricci, Bertone’s CEO. “We set out to create a car capable of strong acceleration, with limited weight for maximum fun. But at the same time it is designed for everyday use and built with ergonomics and comfort in mind (…) It’s not just about raw power, it’s about celebrating the long Italian tradition of timelessly elegant cars.”.

Inspired by the past

If you have a good memory, you probably remember the iconic sports cars designed by Bertone at the time, starting with the Lamborghini Countach, the Alfa Romeo Montreal, the Aston Martin DB2/4 Bertone Spider or the Lamborghini Miura. It is to its models of the 50s, 60s and 70s that the GB110 echoes.

To design the car, the designers were inspired by Franco Scaglione’s series of Alfa Romeo BAT concept cars, as well as the lines of the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo concept. They also drew inspiration from the Lancia Stratos Zero (1970) and Lamborghini Marzal (1967) concepts.

Impressive numbers

It is also under the hood that this model impresses. Although Bertone has not yet specified all the ins and outs of the engine, we already know that it develops 1,100 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque. This block will be combined with a 7-speed transmission and an all-wheel drive.

What’s new is that it will be powered by a fuel developed in collaboration with the company Select Fuel. The company’s patented technology converts polycarbonate materials into renewable fuel.

In terms of performance, this translates into a top speed of 380 km/h, 0 to 100 km/h in 2.79 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 6.79 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 14 seconds. A real sensation machine.

Obviously, there will not be enough for everyone. The Bertone GB110 will be produced in only 33 examples. But rest assured, Bertone has specified that this is the first of a series of high-end sports cars, which it will offer in limited editions in the years to come.
