Created in 1931, the Reverso watch is today celebrating 85 years and continues to reinterpret the codes of its past to anchor itself in modernity. This year, the manufacturer’s telltale style is, along with the brand De Greef, paying homage to Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte. Famed for his unexpected and poetic images, he definitively left his mark on art and continues to inspire artists the world over.
Just for the occasion, the Reverso is dressed up with a reproduction of his work “The Treachery of Images” with a lacquered engraving on the background of the watch’s casing. The work is composed of a pipe accompanied by the phrase: “Ceci n’est pas une pipe”. The theme of dissonance between an object and its representation was indeed often approached by the artist within his timeless paintings.
Three different watch series celebrate the exceptional work of this innovative painter. For the first series, Jaeger-LeCoultre and De Greef selected five grey gold watches and 15 steel watches that can be admired exclusively at De Greef. The second and third series will be released in the coming years. This bold collaboration reveals intensity, imagination, and a truly unique watchmaking savoir-faire.
