The Great Equestrian Events in France 2023 : The Iconics !

Here are the major equestrian events of 2023! The year 2023 opens with the Legend Race 2023 Grand Prix of America. On Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the iconic Vincennes racetrack, the most experienced jockeys on the circuit will set out to win the first horse title of the year.

Since 1920, this race, reserved for horses from 4 to 11 years old, has fascinated an ever-growing public of elegant people. Designed to honor the American commitment to World War I, the race is still run at the Vincennes racetrack – 2,700 meters over which the stallions perform like never before.

The icon of the Grand Prix d’Amérique Legend Race is Ourasi, the only horse to have been crowned winner four times! On the driver’s side, Jean-René Gougeon holds the record for wins – eight, including three with the stallion Ourasi!

A moment of passion therefore, to be reserved without delay.

In Auteuil, it is on May 20 and 21, 2023 that a legendary race will be held. The Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, since 1874, reserved for horses of 5 years and older, is a key stage of the steeplechase competition in France. The winner of this race being indeed considered as the best steeplechase horse in France.

The challenge? 6,000 meters, 23 obstacles, including two passages of the river of the stands requiring a jump of more than 8 meters… And the legendary and pernicious rail ditch and fence, nicknamed the judge of peace who, at the end of the course, comes to ask all the ability of the horse to jump at a height of 1,60 meter to jump its width of 4,10 meters…

A show that keeps you on the edge of your seat. A show that is above all a great sporting event – won in 2022 by the horse Sel Jem ridden by Johnny Charron, thus offering a 7th title to his trainer, Guillaume Macaire. A record.

2023 will be the year of the 183rd edition of the mythical Qatar Prix du Jockey Club. A challenge reserved for 3-year-old thoroughbreds, it is in the beautiful setting of the Chantilly racecourse that this highly competitive prize is held.

At the foot of the Château de Chantilly, on the first Sunday in June, June 4, 2023, this prize, which has thrilled enthusiasts since 1826, will feature the most powerful stallions in the competition – over 2,400 meters!

Still not equalled, the record of Yves Saint-Martin and his nine victories between 1965 and 1987 mark the annals of this very chic French Derby. And it is moreover the stable Marcel Boussac, property of the industrialist who accompanied the creation of the house Christian Dior, which holds the most victories as owner of thoroughbred… So 12 victories.

2023 marks the 174th edition of the world’s most distinguished filly derby – the Prix De Diane Longines, an accolade with the glamour of the past. It is once again on the magnificent domain of Chantilly that the 3 year old fillies will come from all over the world to compete in one of the most prestigious races. On Sunday, June 18, 2023, when it is held, the Prix de Diane gives rise to a true competition of elegance.

With no dress code to speak of, fantasies and other crazy-elegant things are more than welcome. It must be said that after having been ‘married’ to Hermès for 25 years, it is now Longines that ensures the smooth running of this highly iconic event. Thus, the Sunday picnic at the races regains its charm and sophistication of yesteryear; while women compete for the Mademoiselle Diane by Longines prize, clinking their glasses of champagne over a lunch concocted by Fauchon.

From Coco Chanel to Jean Cocteau or today Aishwarya Rai, many people of taste and aesthetics have trodden the soft grass of the Chantilly estate.

In the park of Saint Cloud, it is the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud which, on July 3, 2023, will once again bring together the best horses of age in Europe over the classic distance of 2,400 meters.

Since 1904 it has been an iconic meeting place for horse lovers – who will see horses of 4 years and older compete for victory. A sort of premiere event before the mythical Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which is held on the first weekend of October, the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud is a key event in the French equestrian championship.

At the mythical Hippodrome de Deauville, the Darley Prix Morny will once again thrill the hearts and hold the public spellbound on August 21, 2023.

Inaugurated at the dawn of the Belle Epoque, the Deauville-La Touques racecourse is a place of excellence and elegance, where the cream of the crop gathers since its opening in 1863. In 1913, the racecourse went further and added a straight track – this is where the best races in Deauville are run.

This year again, all the gotha of the galloping world with the most talented jockeys on the backs of some of the best thoroughbreds in Europe will meet here from August 2nd to 28th 2023. With, as a highlight, the Darley Prix Morny race.

Among the major equestrian events in 2023, Paris-Longchamp offers a total racing experience!

July 14th has long been synonymous with garden parties and horse races! The Garden Party of July 14, 2023 at the Longchamp racecourse is 9 gallop races during the day and DJ sets in the evening…

But it was on April 27, 1857 that the first horse race was held at the Longchamp racecourse, in the presence of Emperor Napoleon III.

Nestled in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend on Sunday, October 1 will be the highlight of the event.

Voted the best race in the world by the official international ranking established during the Longines World’s Best Horse Race for 5 consecutive years, it is “the opportunity to experience a race of rare intensity and to witness the coronation of a legend. Suspense and adrenaline are the order of the day for this event which brings together the best thoroughbreds in the world of galloping, associated with the best international jockeys” as the racecourse describes it.

A race run since 1920, it is the German filly Danedream, who in 2011, set the record of 2′ 24″ 49 – time not caught up since. There are 350 horses at the start of the 27 races of this great weekend that will once again fascinate the 35,000 spectators expected for this race of all superlatives.
