Her feathers intermingle with silk thread in creations that are as frivolous as those in the days of Oriental style. She works feathers into high quality embroideries and weavings in the same way that one might work wool or pearls. The unique thing about feathers: they can’t be spun, an exception that was presented at the Cité des Sciences in Paris earlier this year under the guise of inappreciable feather weavings. Within these artifacts, there is a sort of soft fusion, like an alchemic magic at work in their pastel shades. Janaïna Milheiro studied textile design at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle and embroidery at Les Ateliers de Paris and the Ecole Duperré. Rich in this double approach, she brings in feathers to produce ombré textiles that, obtained by the crossing of threads that are either woven at the loom or assembled by hand, conquered haute couture and textile publisher Elitis, who even made an investment in it.
Feathers caress the senses and create desire. The result: poetic and light textile creations. Interlaced, chained, or striped, made with pheasant, rooster, goose, or ostrich feathers, her creations are an ode to reverie. An exercise by the virtuoso who’s designs are graphic and far from the original exoticism that inspired them. Amongst the little morsels from the Révélations fair, that will take place from September 11th to the 15th at the Grand Palais, her work sticks out. The complexity of these feather weavings amplifies the delicateness of these true works of arts. Carefully dyed, her compositions call for a dialogue between two entities, which can only lead to a profound sensorial and visual impact.
