DS E-Tense Performance: The 815 Horsepower French Car

Here is a model which has what to leave dreaming. Despite the upcoming mass electrification, some would say to the detriment of automotive pleasure, manufacturers intend to continue distilling emotions through the models they offer.

French premium brand DS Automobiles intends to go 100% electric by 2024. To this end, thanks in particular to the expertise of its DS Performance racing division involved in Formula E, DS is presenting a concept car “aimed at testing various innovations to be integrated into the brand’s future creations”.

« Our goal is to apply the experience we have gained in Formula E and the expertise we have gained from our international titles to a project that prefigures the high performance electric car of tomorrow. It is a laboratory that will be used to analyze the behavior of the components and to develop them for future industrialization. The idea is also to find solutions to lower costs, make them easier to manufacture and consider applications in mass production models. Future generations of the E-Tense range will benefit from these developments. » explains Thomas Chevaucher, the director of DS Performance.

This model, christened DS E-Tense Performance, has a carbon body and trains
extrapolated from a Formula E single-seater”according to the brand. As DS wants to become a 100% electric car manufacturer, this concept car had to have an electrified engine.

This is the case with two electric motors producing a total power of 600 kW, or about 815 hp and a barely believable torque of 8000 Nm. These two electric motors are powered by a battery located in the rear center and developed jointly with TotalEnergies and its subsidiary Saft.

The DS E-Tense Performance concept car announces much more than the brand’s electrified future. It also gives some clues about the design of future models in the range, including the front.

The DS E-Tense Performance will hit the roads in February with Jean-Éric Vergne and António Félix da Costa, both Formula E champions, on board. Following these tests, the brand will reveal the real performance of its car. This prototype will be sold in NFT format. The first “100′ Series – 100% Electric” will be sold at a rate of one NFT per day, while the second, “100′ Series – 0-100kph in 2s” will be limited to only two units.
