The launching of a new Ferrari is always quite the event. When it comes to a Berlinetta, it is even more so, even if the model presented today is actually a new variant of the 296 GTB<\/a> unveiled a few weeks earlier.<\/p>\n\n

The296 GTS<\/a>, the S stands for Spider, is the convertible version of Maranello\u2019s hybrid supercar. Ferrari opted for a retractable rigid roof composed of two separate elements that open in about 14 seconds, even in motion at a speed of 45 km\/h. With the specificity of the roof, the GTS conserves the same lines as the Berlinetta.<\/p>\n\n

The team of the \u201cCentro Stile Ferrari\u201d, led by Flavio Manzoni, wanted to preserve the lines of the GTB but add a few singularities. Thus, Ferrari has designed a new roll-over C-arm system and integrated a new glazed surface above the engine compartment in order to see the V6. The interior is taken from the 296 GTB, everything is only luxury and refinement, with as usual a high level of customization available for the most demanding customers.<\/p>\n\n

The 296 GTS\u2019s plug-in hybrid powertrain is identical to that of the 296 GTB. The 2.9 bi-turbo V6 is coupled with an electric motor for a total output of 830 horsepower. The thermal block develops 663 hp, while the electric motor is inspired from the Formula 1 and develops up to 167 hp, all powered up by a 7.45 kWh battery that allows to travel up to 25 km in electric mode.<\/p>\n\n

There are several driving alternatives, starting with the eDrive allowing to drive only in electric mode (up to a maximum speed of 135 km\/h), the hybrid mode (the default setting that combines the action of the two engines), the Performance mode (the heat engine is always running and guarantees maximum power) and the Qualify mode (combines maximum performance with the maintenance of the battery power).<\/p>\n\n

And for circuit lovers, Ferrari has renewed the Assetto Fiorano version to maximize the performance of the car on the circuit. This version further improves aerodynamics and offers a weight reduction with new carbon fiber appendages. The Ferrari 296 GTS Assetto Fiorano also features Multimatic shock absorbers coming from the GT, a special livery based on the 250 Le Mans and optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.<\/p>\n\n
