This is why the sociopolitical context of the era is omnipresent in his works just as much in the graphic point of view as in the background. His time spent in Nazi concentration camps in the 40s would profoundly mark his creation, as evidenced by his photomontages \u201cThe Dictator\u201d, superimposing Hitler with a skull, and the \u201cMinotaur\u201d, an allegory for power hungriness, made before the war erupted as a predilection of the somber future destined for Europe. His works left such a mark on time because they come from era in which bodies and spirits alike were damaged.<\/div>\n<div>Discovered in Paris by Cecil Beaton, a renowned fashion photographer, he effortlessly entered into the fashion world with successive contracts for magazines like Votre Beaut\u00e9, Harper\u2019s Bazaar, Vogue, and then for the Cond\u00e9 Naste group who would finally procure him official recognition. His interest for the female body is quenched through his photofinishing technique that uses very tight framing, high levels of contrast, and lighting that brings it towards the realm of abstraction. Captivated by the different artistic movements of his time and before, the influences of Man Ray in his nudes are immediately perceptible, as are his imagination that seems to wander towards Picasso and Kandinsky what with his colors and compositions. In this same way, pre-Raphaelite photographs are reflected in an inspiration board within his photomontages through the same artistic photofinishing treatment.<\/div>\n<div>This artist, who played with a woman\u2019s body like a surface, was nevertheless supplanted in the early 50s by a new generation of renowned photographers with perhaps more evocative names. Avedon and Klein did the opposite of Blumenfeld, who manifested his genius in the darkroom, by coming out of the studio to capture the essence of their photography in the streets. But there was one man who would stick with this idea of reworked aesthetics: photographer Jean-Paul Goude, who also used the female body like an artistic material.
