By launching this limited edition of the Speedy Tuesday watch, the Swiss watchmaker actually payed homage to the weekly habits Robert-Jan Broer. This great lover of the Speedmaster would post a photo of the timepiece every Tuesday on Instagram with the hashtag #speedytuesday. He never suspected that Omega would soon celebrate his enthusiasm. \u201cWe had to get closer to this community that follows us by celebrating our success on Instagram and establishing ourselves as pioneers,\u201d specified Raynald Aeschlimann, president of Omega.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s indeed the Speedmaster, known as the Moon Watch after accompanying Neal Armstrong to the moon in 1969, that inspired this new release. The Omega Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday has the same lines and colors as the famed Speedmaster Alaska Project III, designed for NASA in 1978. For the first time, a collector\u2019s edition was directly put up for sale on Instagram. It took less than five hours for the 2012 copies to find their takers, and it wasn\u2019t until June that the pieces finally departed Omega\u2019s Swiss workshops.<\/p>\n
Equipped with a 42mm case made of satin matte steel with an acrylic glass and black aluminum bezel insert, the Speedy Tuesday is a watch that captures all the iconic characteristics of the watches it in turn is paying homage to. At 12:00, a rare vintage Omega logo makes the piece even more exclusive. At its heart, its essential manual rewinding chrono calibre, the 1861 movement, sets the rhythm. But the Speedy Tuesday wouldn\u2019t be a collector\u2019s piece if it didn\u2019t distinguish itself with a reversed panda-type black dial, with silver counters featuring large numerals covered with a luminescent material. Since this watch was imagined for aficionados of the manufacturer, it wasn\u2019t made available at resellers or even in Omega boutiques. Sold exclusively on Instagram, its lucky owners can now await its delivery in a leather travel case especially conceived for the Speedy Tuesday.<\/p>\n
