Diamonds are a girl\u2019s best friend. This famous film quote could sum up the long relationship between Grace Kelly and Cartier. Just for Olivier Dahan\u2019s new film Grace of Monaco<\/em>, the Parisian jeweler is rereleasing several of its jewels that belonged to the Princess.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Everything started in 1955 when Prince Rainier met American actress Grace Kelly at the Cannes Film Festival. The two didn\u2019t stay strangers for long; they fell in love just a few months later. Their love story was sealed with an emerald and 10.47-carat diamond Cartier engagement ring that the Prince offered the actress in 1956. Almost sixty years later, Cartier is now creating the jewelry for Olivier Dahan\u2019s film that focuses on six months of the princess\u2019 life. It\u2019s a golden opportunity to celebrate the diamond nuptials of this long and rich relationship. Several jewels like a river necklace, a diadem-cum-necklace, and a plethora of brooches would set this relationship in stone, until it abruptly ended in 1982 with the death of she who had to give up on her acting career.<\/div>\n
It\u2019s no surprise then that Cartier was chosen to give new life to the Princess\u2019 jewels, which will be worn by Nicole Kidman in the role. Other jewelers like Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels also put their hats in the ring, but while they sought to imagine what the Princess would wear rather than recreating her accessories, the artisans at Cartier set out to loyally create exact replicas of the original models. With the royal family\u2019s blessing, the jeweler reproduced pieces like the Princess\u2019 engagement ring, a diamond-encrusted poodle brooch, a triple-strand necklace, and a diamond and ruby diadem. The few images from the film that have already been unveiled show a royal Nicole Kidman, decked out in the loyal reproductions of the original models that were created by the Parisian jeweler.On the movie\u2019s poster, the Australian actress seems to glow with the entire light spectrum, broken down through a diamond. This is perhaps what made up the aura of Princess Grace, who\u2019s name alone reveals the actress\u2019 nature: a mixture of chic, light, and of course, grace. Like a last homage to the unbreakable bond between the Monacan royal family and Cartier, the movie\u2019s filming was wrapped up in front of the brand\u2019s famed rue de la Paix boutique in Paris, where Nicole Kidman murmurs her last goodbyes to her life as an American film actress before she begins her life as a royal and enters into eternity.
